Updated Assessment 2008
NNZ have reviewed the Assessment system which was introduced in 2006 and made some changes to policies for 2008.  New Pathway attached.




Netball New Zealand Updates for 2008

1. Theory dates
Regional Exams - May and July
NNZ Exams - June and September
Theory questions will cover protocols.  Tutors need to inform all candidates of the full content to be covered for exams.  Questions should not be trick questions.  They should be clear using the language from the Rule Book and International protocols.

2. Under 23 Camp
Under 23 Umpires selected for camp must have a Regional or NZ Q Award.  The Beep test level is 7 or above and the Rhiet needs to be completed prior to the camp (1 March testing).

3. Fitness Testing
Regions must provide fitness testing for NZ and Regional umpires three times year. For NZ umpires it should be compulsory and if the umpires do not attend or complete the test this should be noted on the accumulative spreadsheet. Note umpires who do not test cannot be appointed as replacements to events.

4. Endorsements - A number of Umpires who qualified in 2005 and require endorsement in 2008; as well as umpires who require NZ C endorsement in 2008 should have been endorsed by their region this year.  Some have, most have not and Regions need to do this in future so that not everyone comes up for endorsement in one year.  Umpires who are due for endorsement this year and could not do it because of injury or lack of fitness will become Non Current in 2008.

6. New Information - In order to become a NZ Q umpire in future they will need to ensure they have a current Theory (Part B post 2001 or NZ post 2006) and they will need to be screened before becoming a NZ Q Umpire.

7. All Regions panels are working well.  Their assessments results are the end product of coaching umpires over a number of games. 

8. Umpires should be encouraged to return the Questionnaires Appendix m from the Excellence Manual and return these to an independent person at the Region.
